Interchangeable Parts?

Post by mustanger7up » Sun Oct 25th, 2009 2:02

I was wondering if a 48 and 49 body parts, dash and such would be interchangeable or not. I found a 48 with a nice dash and other parts pretty cheap and would buy it if the parts will work.

I also saw a really nice 50 special deluxe for $3995.00 in the Houston Tx. area if anyone is interested.

It looks nicer than mine, which looks pretty good I think d:-)
I am looking forward to getting off the boat again so I can tinker with her.
Thanks guys, Kelly

The dash will not work without some serious modifications .... but with a little ingenuity, some sweat equity, and $$$ you probably could make it work. Now, I'm talking about putting a P15 dash into a P17/P18 body .... if you were taking a 1948 P15 dash and putting it into a 1949 P15 ... I suspect that could be done without issues.

Any idea if the bumpers would work? Or the special deluxe stainless and fender trim? I wouldn't mind having the extras just in case.

Body widths are different ... you might be able to get the bumpers to fit but you'd be better off finding better P18 bumpers unless you want that smooth look rather than the ribbed look. I'm sure you could make the Special Deluxe emblems work but again ... the P17/P18 was a complete redesign of the body so they wouldn't be a straight swap. The most interchangeable parts would be the engine and the transmission. You can use the inside window crank handles although again ... a slightly different design.

hes right 49 is the first year of what they call small fender cars most all companys changed sizes that year and did away with running boards and swooped out rocker panels another easy way to tell a 49 from 48 or older
