List of Fasteners for '49 Plymouths - Does one exist?

Post by Johnny_S » Sat Nov 29th, 2008 7:34

Has anyone seen or compiled a list of the correct fasteners for P17 and P18's? I'm talking about a summary page (or 10 pages?) that lists all or part of the fasteners used in 1949 Plymouths. Photos would be a bonus of course. I know that they are listed in large part in the parts manuals but the information is scattered across 400 pages. Maybe one of those 60th Anniversary projects?

Get out of my head! :supercool:

I've been thinking about this too and now would be a good time to gather this info. I do have all of my fasteners grouped, labeled and in zip lock bags. It would be easy to get photos and dimensions for each one. What about nuts, bolts, washers, screws..etc? That would be nice to have too.

I think it might be a little too much for one person to tackle the whole car. but if someone were removing a fender, a splash pan, a grill or some other component, they could make careful notes of every nut, bolt and washer. This is what I did for the woodie wagon. I have a complete list of the wood body fasteners , but none of the sheet metal portion. Everything from the dash forward on my car is the same as a sedan, but everything aft of the dash iscompletely different. Next time I am working on the car I'll make notes of the fasteners and if no one else has covered that part already, we can add it to the list. If everyone did a few pieces, pretty soon we'd have the entire car covered.

Good idea Gerry ..... and then maybe we could post them here to this section in the form of a list and/or photos. At some point the lists and photos could be organized by group. That should work slick .... then everyone can participate AND can keep track of what's been done through this section on fasteners. What say ye all?

Awesome! I also have a searchable pdf version of the part manual on the way. Picked it up to help with this.

Ok .... I saw that listed on eBay and figured it might be a good thing to have. Let me (us) know what you think about it as a worthwhile addition to the library.

How about a format to use?

Something like this:

Fastener Name: Muffler Belt lock washer
Part#: 1911411
Dimensions: id .5" od 5'

Number Used:

P18 SD
sdn = 2
sta wgn = 5
cpe = 2
cvt = 2

P18 D
sdn = 2
cpe = 2

P17
b cpe = 4
tudor = 52
wgn = 9

:-k We may need to come up with a good way to abbreviate the different models. Probably whatever is in the part manual.

Muffler belt lock washers ..... an entirely new category. I don't think the P18 had any [-X ..........

But I like the format idea. :lol:

We might also add source information if we have it for some of the more difficult to find ones. In fact, we might be able to provide a link for some. Maybe not a necessary requirement but it would be a great addition if we had it.
