Tail Light Reflectors

Post by Specialdeluxe » Sun Aug 17th, 2008 10:43

What are folks doing to refurbish or replace their faded tail light reflectors. These originally cost 20 cents to replace and are now selling for $75 on ebay. There must be a better way!

Reflector, Tail Lamp (except station wagon) Part number #1253173
Reflector, Tail Lamp assembly (except station wagon) Part number #1300500

Ideas so far:

Saw this somewhere (P15-D24 site?): "Auto Zone - small reflectors on the license plate attachment screws rack - used for holding license plates on. Around two dollars"

From Johnny_S
I ran into a guy who makes plastic parts AND I found a set of those Stimsonite #17's .... that's the reflector number ... at a swap meet for $1.00 but they were just the reflector and not the housing. I had him make me 7 sets of the reflectors and they came out darn near perfect .... but they cost me $150 to have made!! Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get those pressed metal housings open without tearing them up so badly that they are worth a dang.

Any further developments? Did the ones from Autozone work? Were you able to get the lenses to jump in the metal frame? Any finished photos? Every vintage Plymouth I see has this problem.

The Autozone reflectors are too small but would work in a pinch if you just wanted a reflector. The reproductions do work but have to be custom fitted to each set of housings one at a time ... no easy way yet.
