I was looking around for info on 50's mufflers to get some ideas. I heard that Porter steel pack mufflers were a muffler of choice. Turns out they are still made.
There are some sound samples on their site. Sounds good to me.

I agree they sound great! Those are 8's though. Did you ever install? I am looking into smittys. Also a vintage builder. Currently I have a straight pipe. I bought it that way. I would like a deeper cleaner tone. I will admit the straight pipe is helpful when the car next to me has their boom box cranked. A little throttle seems to drown it out!
