If you watch some old movies, have seen it in some Bogart films, they often enter the car on the passenger side. I suppose they figured it was a safer way to enter the car versus going into the street and opening the drivers door to get in.

Does this apply to the 49 P-17 Fastback as well? Yes, the fastback has the same stock shock set up. If you look at how your shock is mounted you can see that it isn't really doing it's job. It is connected to the upright and the upper control arm. There isn't much movement between these two parts. ...
